The Office of Congresswoman Jane Harman is seeking a proactive and community-oriented individual for the position of Staff Assistant. The position will be based in the El Segundo district office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Answer the telephones;
- Greet visitors to the office;
- Answer constituent requests for general information, tours, and other inquiries;
- Monitor delivery and pickup of materials;
- Maintain front office; and
- Assist with various administrative and legislative duties and other related work as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF/ABILITY TO:
- Familiarity with communities within the 36th Congressional District, including the South Bay and Beach Cities, Los Angeles Harbor Area, and Venice, Mar Vista, and West L.A. preferred.
- Strong written communication skills; ability to research and draft memorandums, letters, and talking points.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and standard Internet browsers strongly preferred.
- Event planning experience desirable.
- Work extended hours as necessary, staff the Congresswoman, or perform other essential duties.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Understand and carry out directions, and take the initiative.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited university;
- Professional telephone manner;
- Proficiency in word processing;
- Excellent organizational and proofreading skills;
- Ability to use photocopier, facsimile machine and other office equipment;
- Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others; and
- Availability to work long hours, if necessary.
