My name is Max Olivier and I am a Research Associate at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. I am writing because we are currently recruiting for new Research Associates, and we seek candidates who are in the process of completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics or a related field.
The Research Associate position is a great opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in economics. In the last two years, RAs from our department have matriculated to several strong graduate programs. Typically, RAs work for two years before attending graduate school.

The Economic Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is recruiting for the position of Research Associate.
Research Associates assist senior staff economists on academic research projects and monetary policy briefings. Their responsibilities include gathering and analyzing data, preparing charts, and writing summaries of economic and financial conditions. More
experienced Research Associates also participate in econometric or theoretical research, develop computer applications, write for Bank publications, and deliver speeches to civic and educational groups. The department has openings for Research Associates in each of
the functional areas below:
Macroeconomics and Monetary Policy
Banking and Financial Markets
Payment Systems Research
These are excellent positions for someone considering a Ph.D. in economics or finance. Research Associates develop technical skills and are exposed to a broad range of economic research topics. Most Research Associates stay with the department for two
years, at which point many return to graduate school.
Applicants should be completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics or a closely related field, such as statistics, computer science, or mathematics. Successful candidates will have a strong academic record, high proficiency with personal computers
and spreadsheet software, and excellent communication skills. Coursework or experience in econometrics, math, statistics, and statistical software packages is highly desirable.
Applicants should send a cover letter, resume, and transcript to:
