2010 BEINECKE SCHOLARSHIP
For juniors planning graduate study in the Arts, Humanities or Social Sciences
Outstanding UCLA juniors who demonstrate exceptional ability in the field of study that they plan to pursue at the graduate level are invited to apply for a 2010 Beinecke Scholarship. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
In order to apply you must:
? Be a junior pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree on a full-time basis (junior is defined as a student who has one more year of undergraduate study after the year of application)
? Intend to pursue a graduate degree in the arts, humanities, or social sciences
? Have a 3.8 overall GPA or better
? Demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and service
? Have a documented history of receiving need-based financial aid
? Be a US citizen or US national
? Complete and submit nomination materials following the steps outlined on the Honors Programs website at www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/honors — click on Scholarships and Opportunities and then National Scholarships; and then click on Beinecke. For students committed to careers related to the Environment; or to Native American Health/ Public Policy
Outstanding UCLA sophomores and juniors preparing for careers related to the environment; and Native American or Alaska Native sophomores or juniors intending to pursue careers in tribal public policy or health care are invited to apply for the 2010 Udall Scholarship. You cannot apply directly for a Udall Scholarship. You must first be nominated by UCLA. In order to be considered for UCLA nomination you must meet the following eligibility requirements:
? Be a sophomore or junior at the time of application (sophomore is defined as a student with two more years of undergraduate study after the year of application; junior is defined as a student with one more year of undergraduate study after the year of application
? Have a 3.0 overall GPA or better
? Demonstrate leadership and service
? Be a US citizen, resident alien, or US national
? Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships
$ 7,500 per academic year for
students in math, science or engineering
Outstanding UCLA sophomores and juniors who intend to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering are invited to apply for a Goldwater Scholarship
The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation will award up to 300 merit-based educational scholarships to college sophomores and juniors throughout the United States. Each scholarship will cover eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room & board up to $7,500 annually. Sophomore level scholarship recipients will be eligible for two years of support and junior level recipients, for one year of support.
You cannot apply directly for a Goldwater Scholarship. You must first be nominated by UCLA. In order to be considered for UCLA nomination you must:
? Be a sophomore or junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree on a full-time basis. “Sophomore” is defined as a student who plans two more years of full-time undergraduate study beginning September 2010. ”Junior” is defined as a student who plans one more year of full-time undergraduate study beginning September 2010.
? Be enrolled in an undergraduate field of study that will lead to a career in mathematics, the natural sciences or engineering
? Have an overall college grade point average of at least 3.0
? Be a U.S. citizen, a resident alien, or a U.S. national
