Learn about the on-line resume critique service for alumni, BruinView for Alumni, Bruin AlumnLink, and special networking and program options available though the UCLA Career Center and the UCLA Alumni Association.  You will also be introduced to numerous on-line and community resources that can help you advance your career strategies and focus your options.

2.  How to Use a Professional Portfolio for Success ELIZABETH MONACO, UCLA CAMPUS HUMAN RESOURCES 9:50 to 10:30am -
Are you wondering how to stand out from the crowd in today’s competitive job market? These days, it is not enough to have an excellent resume, strong interviewing skills, and professional contacts. Today’s candidates also need unique ways to set themselves apart from other candidates in the actual interview. Like an artist’s portfolio, a professional portfolio showcases your work to prospective employers by providing a multi-dimensional view of your accomplishments as they relate to the job you are seeking. This session will provide an overview and definition the nature and purpose of professional portfolios as well as how best to use them during the interview process. We will discuss what to include in the portfolio, how to construct the final product, and most importantly, how and when to present it during the interview for best results. Portfolio samples will be provided as well materials and web resources.

3.  Get the 411!  Get Connected!  Informational Interviewing and Networking GRACE PARK, UCLA CAREER CENTER 10:30 to 11:10am -
Have you heard people talk about informational interviews?  Are you still not sure exactly what it is or how it can help you?  How about networking?  Is it something you dread?  Do you find yourself not knowing what to say?  Come to this workshop to learn how to strategize and maximize informational interviews and networking in your career/job search.

4.  It’s a Brand You World: Succeed by Being Your Best Self DIANA JENNINGS, FOUNDER, BRAND YOU IMAGE 11:20-12:20pm -

Personal Branding is not about creating an image for the outside world; it is about understanding what is truly unique about you – and using that to differentiate yourself and guide your career decisions. In this presentation, you will learn the secrets of developing and communicating your brand.

5.  Outside the Box: Career Options Beyond a Job or Grad School DARIO BRAVO, UCLA CAREER CENTER 12:20-1pm -
Besides a job or grad school, are there truly any options for college graduates?  How can you explore new career fields or enhance your current skills without pursuing traditional employment or advanced education?  Some exciting and fulfilling opportunities that can make you a more marketable future candidate will be introduced in this session — including the California Fellows Program, the New York City Fellowship Program, JET: Japan Exchange & Teaching program, New Voices, and a national non-profit fellowship. Don’t miss learning about these and many other intriguing alternatives to the conventional alumni career path.
