Suspension of College General Education Seminar /Second Writing II Requirement
The Faculty Executive Committee of the College of Letters and Science voted to suspend the College GE seminar requirement for all current students beginning Winter Quarter 2009. The 10 course GE requirement is still in effect, but there is no longer a requirement that 1 of the 10 courses be a GE Seminar (or the alternative second GE Writing II course). Any GE seminar or GE Writing II course taken previously will still apply toward the applicable GE foundation area. Students are encouraged to enroll in GE Seminars to fulfill their GE coursework but a seminar will not be a graduation requirement.
For more information, see www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/counseling/ge-seminar-suspension.htm

Tips for Seniors
GRADUATION CHECKIST
DECLARING CANDIDACY
– Declaring your degree expected term (or declaring candidacy) is required to graduate. Check your DPR to see if you have already declared a degree expected term. It is located on your DPR just above your major information. If you have not declared a degree expected term or it is inaccurate, you may change it by using URSA or completing a degree candidacy form. Paper forms must be filed with the Registrar’s Office at 1113 Murphy Hall. Please be aware that changes made during specific time periods could jeopardize ticketing and the printing of your name in the program.
How and when do I declare my degree expected term?
– You should declare your candidacy before you have accumulated 160 units or else a $20 dollar fee will be assessed to your bar account. You can use URSA online to declare your degree expected term or change it if it is inaccurate as long as you have not completed 160 units.
–If you declared candidacy for Spring, but just realized that you can finish your degree requirements this quarter, how can you change your degree expected term? If you decide that you would like to graduate at the end of the current term, you must declare candidacy by Friday of the second week of classes. For more information about the rules and regulations of declaring candidacy visit: http://www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/counseling/regulations/declaringcandidacy.htm
